NASHVILLE, April 30, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — A new documentary born out of one of Nashville’s most devastating tragedies invites audiences into a different kind of national conversation—one rooted not in debate, but in listening, compassion, and the shared search for meaning in the face of loss.

“Louder Than Guns,” from Executive Producers Ketch Secor (Old Crow Medicine Show) and former NPR Morning Edition host David Greene, was created in the wake of the Covenant School shooting, as a response to the grief, division, and unanswered questions that followed. In a moment when many turned to outrage or silence, the film reflects a different posture—one grounded in humility, human dignity, and the belief that even in disagreement, people are called to care for one another.

“People of faith should be alarmed that firearm tragedies are now the number one cause of death for children in our state,” said Clay Stauffer, Senior Minister of Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville. “We can and must do better. This film opens the dialogue for how change can happen.”

Through a journey across rural, urban, and suburban communities, “Louder Than Guns” brings together voices from across the spectrum—inviting people to speak openly about their experiences, their fears, and their hopes for the future. What emerges is not a debate, but a conversation—one that acknowledges pain while pointing toward the possibility of reconciliation.

“Though we didn’t set out to make an overtly religious film, its themes naturally are,” said director Doug Pray. “We’re inviting people to listen to those they may disagree with, to understand how they arrived at their views, to seek common ground—and to recognize that, as a nation, we may be far closer on this issue than we think.”

“After 25 years of covering this country’s hardest stories,” said Executive Producer David Greene, “I’ve learned that the most important thing a journalist can do is listen. That’s what this film is — an act of listening. Ketch and I didn’t set out to change anyone’s mind. We set out to understand, and what we found gave me more hope than I expected.”

At the center of the film is music—long a unifying force in American life—serving as a bridge between perspectives that often feel irreconcilable. In a culture quick to divide, “Louder Than Guns” suggests that connection doesn’t begin with agreement, but with a willingness to see and hear one another as neighbors.

“After the Covenant shooting, I felt like silence was no longer an option,” said Executive Producer Ketch Secor, whose band Old Crow Medicine Show is featured in the film. “But I also knew that shouting into the void wasn’t the answer. What David and I set out to find — and what Doug so beautifully captured — is the possibility of real conversation in a country that feels like it’s forgotten how to have one. Music has always been how Americans talk to each other across divides, and I believe it still can be.”

Following its theatrical debut, the film will roll out to audiences nationwide, including a May 11 broadcast on Nashville PBS. That same evening, the film will be featured in a special screening at The Belcourt Theatre in Nashville—bringing the conversation back to the city where it began.
