Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Coalition, states:
- “It was deeply disappointing to see President Trump and our military honor and “Roll Out The Red Carpet” for a leader who is a dictator, commits mass genocide, imprisons and persecutes Christians, tears crosses down and bulldozes churches to the ground, whose government rapes Uyghur women in prison camps, brutalizes his own people, crushes religious minorities, trampled freedom in Hong Kong and keeps people like Jimmy Lai in prison, oppresses Tibet, and helped the Iranian regime attack our military.
- “We will be displaying on the Red Carpet, the names of people and groups who have been persecuted, oppressed and killed by the government of President Xi.
- “We echo the words of Holocaust Survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Elie Wiesel, as he says; ‘We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.’”
Rev. Patrick Mahoney has been an outspoken critic of the human rights abuses in China for over 40 years. In 2008, he was involved in an effort to boycott the Beijing Summer Olympics and was arrested in Tiananmen Square during the Olympics, speaking out for human rights.
