BRENTWOOD, Tenn., Aug. 18, 2026 /Standard Newswire/ — What if the Bible has been offering wisdom about food all along?

In Biblical Wisdom for a Healing Diet: Crafting Your Diet from Foods God Designed for You, biologist and Bible teacher Charles Detwiler, MSc, PhD, explores the connection between Scripture, science and the everyday choices people make about food.

Drawing from five decades of biological research and lifelong biblical study, Detwiler examines 160 Scripture passages about food, offering readers a framework for understanding nutrition through the lens of faith and God’s design. Rather than adding another voice to a crowded world of changing diet trends, he begins with a different question: What did God actually design us to eat? The book doesn’t present itself as a diet program — it’s a Scripture-first framework for thinking about food and caring for the body God has given.

Biblical Wisdom for a Healing Diet takes readers from Genesis to the early church, exploring biblical passages related to food, appetite, community and the stewardship of the body. Each devotional entry includes Scripture, historical context, practical application and a concluding prayer — recognizing that lasting lifestyle change requires more than information; it requires wisdom, humility and God’s grace.

“God designed both the human body and the food that fuels it — Scripture and science were never meant to compete; they were meant to agree,” says Detwiler.

For more than 50 years, Detwiler has studied biology, research and education. His scientific career includes doctoral and postdoctoral research at Cornell University, Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and SUNY Stony Brook. He most recently served as Professor of Biology at Liberty University.

Raised in a Mennonite farming community in Pennsylvania, Detwiler developed an early appreciation for the natural world that grew into a lifelong pursuit of scientific discovery and biblical understanding. His work brings together research and Scripture to examine what they reveal about food, the human body and human flourishing.

Biblical Wisdom for a Healing Diet is published by Creative Enterprises Studio (Premier Publishing Services Group) and is available in paperback with 160 Scripture-based devotional entries. The book is categorized under Christian Living, Bible Study, and Faith & Health.
