NEW YORK, Feb. 7, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- February 7 through 14th is National Marriage Week USA (www.nationalmarriageweekusa.org), a national campaign since 2010 to increase marriage education nationwide and build more marital success, which reduces poverty and benefits children.
"National Marriage Week USA is a great time to get the word out as to why we must be concerned about the decline of marriage in America, and the ways to help people have more success," said its executive director, Sheila Weber.
The campaign has many compelling messages and projects, said Weber, including:
- Marriage must be part of the conversation about the economic divide -- that marriage lifts women and children out of poverty. The Brookings Institution says we'd have 25% less poverty today if we had the marriage rates we had in 1970. (See the News Room at www.NationalMarriageWeekUSA.org for articles, press releases, and Op-Eds.)
- New, fun Affordable Wedding videos and ideas -- that couples are waiting to get married because they can't afford the wedding, and we all should be helping and finding ways to create low cost weddings, and changing our mindset about what it takes to make a bride "happy." See Weber's Op-Ed today picked up by Fox News Opinion.
- The campaign has the ONLY online National Marriage Calendar where all groups can list and locate for free any marriage class or event all across the nation! The goal is to help folks know where they can get help for themselves or reach out and help others.
- The campaign is building a movement of marriage education all across America: the goal--a marriage class in every town like fireworks on the Fourth of July!
- The alarming statistics -- with 41% of all babies born out of wedlock today, and enormous drops in the marriage rate, we must be concerned about the decline of marriage, and collaborate to change the thinking and behavior of the next generation.
