ANDERSON, Ind., May 3, 2012 /Standard Newswire/ -- U.S. Congressman Mike Pence issued the following statement today in honor of the National Day of Prayer:
"On this National Day of Prayer, let it be said now, more than ever, that America is a nation of prayer. Today is the 61st celebration of the National Day of Prayer, a day when Americans from coast to coast will set aside time to pray for this nation, our soldiers, public safety officials and public servants from the President of the United States to the city council.
"Well before President Truman formally named the National Day of Prayer in 1952, and in the six decades that have since passed, Americans have made prayer a priority in good times and bad, through triumph and travail.
"'The effective and fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much,' and what is true of man is also true of nations.
"During this National Day of Prayer, and during this time of challenge and struggle for many families across Indiana and the country, let us reaffirm that we are a nation of prayer."
