The Pharisees are Coming to Jesus: Secret Orthodox Believers in Israel and America

BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 3, 2021 /Standard Newswire/ -- Xulon Press has released a new Messianic Jewish book, in which it is reported that many Orthodox Jews, descendants of the Pharisees who rejected Jesus, are meeting secretly as believers in Jesus.

"The Pharisees Are Coming to Jesus: Secret Orthodox Believers in Israel and America," by Anthony Cardinale, is based on interviews with Jewish believers in Jesus who quietly continue to attend their synagogues without informing their leaders that they believe they have found the Messiah. (Doing so would lead to their expulsion from the synagogue.)

Cardinale, who has been to Israel five times to conduct his research, states in his book that these secret Orthodox followers of Jesus are replicating the Early Church, whose Jewish believers met secretly but continued to visit the Temple daily. They saw no reason to leave the Jewish faith, nor do Orthodox believers today.

Many books have been published in recent years about the Messianic Jewish movement, whose roots go back to the 1860s. The public became more aware of Jewish believers in Jesus in the 1970s, with the founding of Jews for Jesus.

However, while Jews for Jesus seeks to convert Jews and enroll them in churches, the Messianic Jewish movement has its own synagogues where Jews who believe in Jesus can still worship as Jews. The movement is rejected by Jewish rabbis, particularly the strict Orthodox.
Xulon Press claims that Cardinale's book breaks new ground by identifying Orthodox Jews, in both America and Israel, who believe in Jesus but have no intention of leaving their synagogues to join a Messianic Jewish synagogue with its Gentile trappings.

A graduate of St. Bonaventure University and Northwestern University, Cardinale was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize three times during his years as a journalist with the Buffalo News.

His previous books are "The Red Heifer: A Jewish Cry for Messiah," and "The Revolt of Rabbi Morris Cohen."

His latest book has been endorsed by Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Bernis, president of Jewish Voice Ministries, International.
