Prayer Binders for School House Shooting Victims to be Hand-Delivered

Contact: Dane Rose, Faith and Action, 202-546-8329, ext 106, 703-447-1072 cell

MEDIA ADVISORY, Oct. 18 /Standard Newswire/ -- Binders containing hundreds of prayers for the victims and families of the October 2, Amish school house shootings in Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania, will be hand-delivered on Monday, October 23.

The Reverend Rob Schenck, president of Faith and Action in Washington, DC, asked his organization’s 63,000 Internet supporters to pray for the family members of both the young victims and shooter Charles Carl Roberts. Rev. Schenck visited with the Roberts family and his victims’ families in the days immediately following the tragedy.

Rev. Schenck said, “Both the Roberts and the Amish families were greatly relieved to know people were praying for them. They all expressed surprise. One Amish family told me they were living on the prayers being offered for them. A grandmother to one of the girls who was killed asked if we could print out the prayers because the Amish don’t use computers and have no access to the Internet. She said she knew all the families would want to read them. I assured her we would do that.”

Almost 500 prayers were E-mailed to Faith and Action from around the country and will be printed out on 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of paper and bound in blue and brown leather 3-ring binders. Plastic page protectors will be used to preserve the prayers for future generations to read.

Delivery of the binders coincides with Rev. Schenck’s appearance at a Lancaster County Faith and Action banquet planned more than a year ago and advertised since October, 2005. The event is held yearly at the Good ‘N Plenty restaurant on Route 896, just a few miles from the scene of the shooting. Rev. Schenck will talk about his experience with the families during the banquet program.
