Missionary Volunteers Welcome in Cruise-Destination Island of Grenada

Contact: Rachel Elwood, World Gospel Mission, 765-671-7255

MEDIA ADVISORY, March 2 /Standard Newswire/ -- With spring break approaching, many Americans will be capitalizing on deals to visit popular locations such as Mexico, Florida, and islands in the Caribbean in search of a worry-free, fun vacation. But missionary-sending organization World Gospel Mission (WGM) is challenging Christians to consider helping those who live in vacation destinations. "Many of us are unaware of the fact that in the places we vacation, there is acute poverty and the need for the gospel to be preached. We can do something about that," said recruiter Troy Simpson.

According to the CIA, in the year 2000, the poverty level in Grenada stood at 32 percent and has likely risen since that time. WGM partners with missionaries in Grenada who are ministering to local churches and are in the process of recruiting teams and individuals to partner with them in outreach to the youth of Grenada.

"Grenada is a beautiful place," said Simpson. "But many families are unstable, and over 80 percent of children are born outside of wedlock, so reaching out to these kids is extremely important."

WGM began working in Grenada in 2009 when veteran missionary couple Tim and Diane Bennett, who had spent 21 years in Papua New Guinea, moved to the island to help a new church plant.

"Volunteers who love working with kids and teens will be a huge help to the Bennetts in expanding what they're already doing with this church," said Simpson. "We are currently recruiting teams who can come on short-term trips as well as individuals who have the opportunity to spend six weeks to a year to minister in Grenada. Either way, it will be an experience of a lifetime."
