DALLAS, July 20, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- Innovation in "mobile health" is the real health care reform that's already underway in increasing access, improving quality and lowering costs, but advancements in mobile health are threatened by the rapidly dwindling supply of spectrum.
A July 26th Washington DC briefing, "Mobile Health: Innovations in Care and the Spectrum Challenge," to be held on Capitol Hill and sponsored by the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI), will examine the explosion of new and innovative ways wireless connectivity is changing the face of health care and the spectrum challenges that could kill real health care reform in its tracks.
The Honorable Michael C. Burgess, M.D., (TX-26) will provide keynote remarks, along with a panel discussion featuring Eleanor Chye, Executive Director of AT&T Mobility Product, mHealth, & Pharma; Anand K. Iyer, Ph.D., President and COO of WellDoc, Inc.; and Richard J. Katz, M.D., of the George Washington University Hospital. The panel will be moderated by Merrill Matthews, Ph.D., IPI Resident Scholar and health care expert.
"The pace of innovation in mobilized health care technologies is phenomenal, enhancing providers' workflow, providing more efficient care to patients, and enabling care to be delivered from anywhere," said Matthews. "Doctors are not just embracing mobile devices to improve the delivery and quality of health care, they are leading the charge, allowing them to deliver better patient care both in the office and across the country."
"Additionally, hospitals are integrating wireless connectivity as a way to move information and make it immediately available to health care providers, and thousands of innovators and entrepreneurs are developing new mobile apps and other wireless products that will change the face of health care in the future."
But access to this kind of medical care communication is under increasing threat by the fast-dwindling supply of spectrum, among other issues, said Matthews. "This briefing will take up all these topics and more to both address the progress being made in mobile health as well as the solutions needed to meet the spectrum challenges that could stifle it," he said.
The briefing is scheduled to take place on July 26, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:30 am on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. in Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2325.
