WASHINGTON, Sept. 5 /Standard Newswire/ -- One day after Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to two felony counts of obstructing justice by committing perjury and no-contest to one count of felonious assault for shoving a sheriff's deputy, The Freedom's Defense Fund (FDF) launched an ad in Macomb County, Michigan.

The ad calls into question Senator Obama's judgment and takes issue with the praise Obama lavished on Kilpatrick at the Detroit Economic Club in May 2007. The tag at the end of the ad asks the viewers, "Do you know who Barack Obama's friends are?"

"For years, Kwame Kilpatrick has been considered among the most ethically challenged Mayors in America," said Todd Zirkle, Executive Director for the Freedom's Defense Fund. "We believe Obama's comments praising Mr. Kilpatrick as a 'great mayor' and 'a leader not just here in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country' calls into question his judgment and is relevant to voters across Michigan and throughout America.”
The ad is scheduled to run a saturated one-week schedule on cable news networks in Macomb County, Michigan.
"We chose Macomb County for very strategic reasons," explained Zirkle. "We believe it is difficult for liberal Democrats to win Michigan without Macomb County and we know it is extremely difficult for a Democrat to win the White House without carrying Michigan. We plan to extend this buy as resources and donations permit."
