Houston Mega Church Takes Bible Listening Challenge

Contact: Jon D. Wilke, Faith Comes By Hearing, 800-545-6552

ALBUQUERQUE, NM., Dec. 29 /Standard Newswire/ -- When Dr. Ed Young of Second Baptist Church of Houston heard about You've Got The Time launching there in early 2009 and began listening to the BibleStick for himself, he decided to get involved immediately.

Dr. Young said, "This is a super opportunity to get on the same page as a church family. Most of us have been reading the Bible for many, many years. Listening to God's Word, however, can add even greater depth and understanding to our times in the Scripture."

You've Got The Time is 40-day Bible listening challenge sponsored by Faith Comes By Hearing, the world's foremost Audio Bible ministry.

Second Baptist originally planned to embark on this "amazing Bible listening adventure" September 15. Faith Comes By Hearing provided almost 37,000 MP3 discs -- in English, Spanish, Farsi, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese and Bulgarian. They also provided 3,500 BibleSticks for those adults not familiar with MP3 technology and 6,000 KIDZ BibleSticks for the children.

Then Hurricane Ike hit.

Their main campus sustained substantial damage. Staff members reported a foot of water had washed through the Worship Center and that trapped water threatened to break the beautiful stained glass dome.

After the hurricane, church leaders decided to conduct the service outside on a soccer field, and are currently holding services in two gymnasiums and the sanctuary as the Worship Center is repaired, which could take up to a year.

This powerful storm didn't set back the Second Baptist church family though; they understand the power of God's Word, and, despite Ike's aftermath, began listening two weeks later.

Church members said God's Word in audio was a timely source of peace. Although there was no electricity, many members listened to their battery-powered BibleSticks. Stories also surfaced about children sitting and listening to their KIDZ Bibles and feeling comforted by God's Word in audio.

You've Got the Time Houston is scheduled to launch January 2009 for the Houston and Galveston areas. Faith Comes By Hearing's goal is to get every man, woman, and child in Houston listening to the Word of God.

Almost 59,000 churches across the U.S. have already participated in Faith Comes By Hearing's Audio Bible listening programs. If your church would like to participate in the You've Got the Time Houston Bible listening campaign, visit www.FaithComesByHearing.com or call 800-545-6552.
