Family of Slain Howard City Couple Issues Statement on Mike Huckleberry's Recent Comments

"Mike Huckleberry is a nice man, but his ideas are dangerous. He doesn't understand that when felons are put on the streets, innocent people get hurt." -- Tim Bean, son of murder victims Robert and Norma Bean

HOWARD CITY, Mich., October 29 /Standard Newswire/ -- The family of murdered Robert and Norma Bean made the following statement today:

"Our parents were brutally murdered by two 'non violent' offenders who received an early release from prison.

"Mike Huckleberry supports giving an early release to thousands more 'non violent' criminals just like these men. If Huckleberry is elected and this policy is allowed to continue, more families like ours will be devastated. This isn't about politics--it's about protecting families."

Just days after the Beans' funeral, the 70th District State House candidate, Democrat Mike Huckleberry, publicly came out in support of cuts for Michigan Department of Corrections spending.*

Huckleberry supports relaxing mandatory minimum sentences and giving early release to "non violent" offenders. Huckleberry's comments came in reference to a program sponsored in 2007 by Governor Granholm that would parole over 5000 "non violent" offenders.

The men being held for the murders of Robert and Norma Bean were "non violent" offenders out on parole.
