Dispelling the Black Women Lack Access to Abortion Lie

CLEVELAND, Ohio, Oct. 11, 2023 /Standard Newswire/ -- Every time a measure is suggested to protect women and their babies from the predators called abortionists, those in the industry declare passage of the measure will deny black women access to reproductive healthcare. That rhetoric grew legs after the 2010 immensely successful Black Children are an Endangered Species billboard campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. The lack of access idea was built into their talking points and distributed far and wide among those that support abortions.

There is a proposed amendment to the Ohio constitution that will enshrine abortion as a constitutional right. As has been the case for more than a decade, the narrative is being pushed that black women will be denied access to abortion if the amendment is not passed. A second narrative, that these black babies will be born into poverty, is also being marketed to scare women into supporting the amendment.  This  amendment goes far beyond protecting abortion access, instead some of the language protects the predators rather than their female prey.

The facts do not support the idea that access to abortion is a problem for black women in Ohio. Over the past ten years 96,601 white children and 84,410 black children lost their lives to abortion. According to the abortion supporter  narrative, there should be fewer black families in poverty, yet "Black households have slipped from making 73.8% of white households in 1970 to 55.5% in 2020, according to the Census Bureau."  The targeting of black babies in Ohio has increased while the media has bombarded black women with messaging that creates fear of losing a right through articles such as "Abortion in Ohio Ending access to affect black women, poor the most."

Access has cost Ohio more than 84,410 black lives. Sadly, black nor white women of childbearing age are having the 2.1 children needed to maintain their current presence in Ohio's population -  Ohio's rate is 1.7. Ohio does not need a constitutional amendment that cements abortion in its culture. Ohio needs to encourage births if it is to maintain its existence in America.
