WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2023 /Standard Newswire/ -- The public witness and virtual prayer vigil will be on Thursday, December 7, at 4:30 PM, which is the first day of Hanukkah.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, will be gathering around a Menorah on the public sidewalk located at the base of the House of Representatives on the southeastern corner of the U.S. Capitol.
On the first day of Hanukkah, we will come together around a Menorah to pray and stand against anti-semitism as we call for Congress to ensure the Jewish community is protected here in America.
We will be carrying the vigil on Facebook Live. You can join by going to this link: https://www.facebook.com/revmahoney/
Rev. Mahoney states:
"Antisemitism in the US is reaching 'historic levels' FBI Director Christopher Wray has warned.
"73% of American Jewish college students have experienced or seen anti-semitism since the start of school year and only 46% of Jewish college students felt physically safe on campus after the October, 7 terrorist attack in Israel.
"On the first day of Hanukkah, we will be gathering around a Menorah to pray and stand against anti-semitism as we call for Congress to ensure the Jewish community is protected here in America.
"It is critical the American people also publicly stand against this kind of hatred, violence and bigotry against the Jewish community.
"We echo the words of Elie Wiesel, Holocaust Survivor and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, when he said; 'We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.'"
