Freeze the Debt Ceiling

MEDIA ADVISORY, Feb. 9, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- The following is submitted by Bishop E. W. Jackson, Sr.:

Global warming is not the only sham Americans should see through. The sky won't fall if we don't raise the debt ceiling.

Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and others in the administration are once again predicting dire consequences if Congress does not vote to raise the $14.29 trillion debt ceiling.  American's should now realize when this administration starts talking about "catastrophic" outcomes it is really code for, "we hope we can scare you into giving us what we want."

This past year's massive shift in the election of fiscal conservative candidates was due in large part to the grass-roots Tea Party movement across America.  These candidates were not sent to Washington to continue with, "business as usual."  On the contrary, they were sent there to shake things up.

House Republicans have only one opportunity to get this right, if they blow it, there is no "do over."  Now is the time for the leaders in the GOP to use every means available to educate the public about WHY the debt ceiling should not be raised, and WHAT impact this will really have on our great Nation.

This is also the time when the leaders in the Tea Party movement across the country should be reminding their members of Congress, if they hold firm to their principals, they will have support back at home.  No member wants to do the heavy lifting alone and be hung out to dry because their constituents did not understand they were striving to do the right thing to save our republic.

Not increasing the debt ceiling would require our government adhere to a 'pay-as-you-go' system while they gain control of the fiscal crisis which resulted from their unbridled spending and debt.  It would still allow the Treasury to prioritize interest and debt payment to avoid a default. This requires Congress do exactly what the majority of them were sent to Washington to do: institute substantial cuts in government spending and put us on a rapid path to solvency.

Contrary to liberal hysteria, such action will not result in worldwide economic catastrophe. In fact, world markets will be reassured that America is serious about getting her financial house in order. Only in the liberal alternate universe does refusing to continue borrowing forty cents of every dollar constitute fiscal irresponsibility.  Why would you give someone a blank check that just went on a spending spree?  The reality is, if we allow this President to continue his unprecedented borrowing and spending, economic catastrophe is inevitable.

Voters sent a new Congress to Washington with one clear mandate - STOP! Call your Senator and Congressman today and remind them why you elected them, and that they have your support to slam the brakes on Obama's destructive spending spree.
