GREENVILLE, S.C., Aug. 18, 2021 /Standard Newswire/ -- A staggering 90% of Americans believe the nation faces a "crisis of leadership," according to a faith-based organization that's staging a one-of-a-kind global event in October to show people how to "lead like Jesus."
"We're seeing a lot of bad leaders in every sphere of society," said Rich Cummins, president and CEO of Lead Like Jesus (www.leadlikejesus.com), citing studies that found 61% say they work for a bad boss and 38% of new CEOs fail in the first 18 months on the job.
"There are about 60,000 books on the topic of leadership on Amazon.com right now, but judging by the results in the marketplace, most of them are giving one-sided advice," said Cummins, a leader in the business and nonprofit industries for decades.
South Carolina-based Lead Like Jesus is staging the Next Level Global Gathering Oct. 13 at Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, Ky. The in-person event will be live-streamed across the U.S. and around the world in 24 other countries, including Philippines. Individuals and churches can sign up to livestream.
Billed as "a global gathering to train, disciple, and inspire leaders to lead like Jesus," the event will feature well-known speakers in the faith-based arena, including author Patrick Lencioni, stress relief coach Lauren Miller, Ken Harrison, CEO of Promise Keepers, parenting, marriage and teen book author and speaker Trisha Goyer, Jon Gordon, best-selling author and speaker and JB Brown, sportscaster and pastor. Passion Music will lead worship.
Leader's heart -- the most critical part of leadership
Many leadership programs fail to produce good leaders because they prioritize the "wrong things," according to Cummins. "Most leadership programs focus on skills, competencies, and tactics, while ignoring the real issue -- the leaders themselves, their heart condition and motives reflected in their character and integrity."
"We believe that real, lasting change for every leader starts on the inside," he said. "Jesus is the greatest leader of all time. The more a leader's heart is in tune with Jesus' way of leading and influencing others, the better and more transformational their leadership will be."
The October event aims to attract executives and managers from the corporate world, as well as leaders of churches and faith-based organizations.
Can Bosses Abandon Their Egos, Pride and Fear?
The goal, Cummins says, is to "model the leadership style of Jesus," encouraging bosses to abandon their egos, pride, and fear for a gentler, love-based and selfless approach to leading others. "We call our approach Way of the Carpenter," he said, referring to Jesus' trade before his ministry began.
