First Public Words to be Heard at the United States Capitol in 2025 Will Be Ones of Prayer, Worship and Honoring God

Dec. 31, 2024

WASHINGTON, Dec. 31, 2024 /Standard Newswire/ -- After an historic federal court victory opened up the US Capitol steps to 1st Amendment and religious freedom activities, Rev. Patrick Mahoney will be holding a prayer and worship service on January 1st.

The vigil will be on the southeastern steps of the US Capitol, which are the House of Representatives steps, beginning at 12 midnight on January 1st. It will also be streamed on Facebook Live.

The focus of the prayer and worship service will center on seeking God for: spiritual awakening, nationwide healing, divine guidance and wisdom for the new Congress and President, and for a peaceful transference of power.

Rev. Mahoney will also conduct a "Prayer Walk" around the US Capitol asking for God's protection for a peaceful Inauguration.

After 3 years in court, Rev. Mahoney won a federal lawsuit in May of 2024, which opened up the steps of the United States Capitol to peaceful 1st Amendment activities and for the first time declared the Capitol steps a "public forum."

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Washington, DC based Christian Defense Coalition, states;

    "After a bruising and contentious national election, it is important for the nation to begin healing and turn our hearts toward God. For the only hope in moving America forward is through God's guidance and strength.

    "President Abraham Lincoln prayed that we must 'recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.'

    "We will be praying for: spiritual awakening, nationwide healing, divine guidance and wisdom for the new Congress and President, and for a peaceful transference of power."

 Due to a new security protocol put in place by the Capitol Police Board and a federal court order, Rev. Mahoney is the only person, outside of a member of Congress, allowed to engage in 1st Amendment activities on the Capitol steps until after the Inauguration. Rev. Mahoney may invite four guests.
