The Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), President of the National Clergy Council, representing church leaders of Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox and Protestant traditions, has asked NBC not to broadcast what he called an “obnoxious spectacle.”

The NCC President has called on the NBC to reconsider its decision to show the crucifixion scene as part of a program scheduled for the period in November when networks compete for ratings and advertising dollars. Schenck said, “NBC should do the responsible, civil thing and retract its permission for this obnoxious spectacle. All of human civilization will benefit from one less spasm of Madonna’s excesses.”
He suggested that by NBC stands to gain a little much-needed respect by dropping the offensive segment and warned, “Until they do so, the rest of us simply need to turn off NBC.”
