ROCKVILLE, Md., Nov. 28, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- Held in Marrakesh from 27 to 30 November under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the Second Edition Of The World Human Rights Forum is a platform to discuss several issues, including the rights of children, women, disabled people and migrants, in addition to other unresolved issues from the Vienna Conference on Human rights and other issues related to the new generation of human rights.
This conference attracted more than 6,000 participants from five continents, including Heads of State, Ministers, representatives of international organizations for human rights, academics, international activists in the fields of Human Rights, national and international NGOs and representatives of the media.
The Forum will make a series of recommendations and proposals aiming at enhancing the UN human rights system, improving international cooperation and promoting best practices in the field of human rights.
The Marrakech Forum took place after the first World human rights Forum hosted by Brazil in December 2013 and after the 1993 Vienna World Conference on Human rights.
Over the past several decades Morocco has prioritized reform to strengthen democracy and human rights institutions. According to many observers, the country has become today a regional model and its experience in promoting human rights is a study case for many Arab and African countries.
The fact that Morocco is the first African country to host this event is therefore an international recognition of its outstanding efforts to promote human rights and human rights education under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI .
"I congratulate Morocco for extending, day by day, its scope of progress in the field of human rights. What has been achieved here at the national level and within the framework of cooperation with UN mechanisms in charge of human rights is extremely encouraging," Baudelaire Ndong Ella, President of the UN Council of Human Rights (UNCHR) said Wednesday in Rabat.
