A press release from the Moroccan Ministry of Interior reported that the cell was dismantled after investigations led by the General directorate of territorial surveillance (DGST).
The cell was commanded by well-known militant members of extremist groups. These jihadists are known to be working with leaders of Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). They have been commissioned to hire and recruit new members.
The source also reported that the ring leader was a primary contact for recruitment and hiring of new members some of whom have been tied to fighters of Al Qaeda in Syria. He also encouraged others to carry out terrorist acts against state institutions.
