WASHINGTON, Feb. 24, 2016 /Standard Newswire/ -- As the President announces his plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and transfer prisoners to the United States, Congressman Trent Franks released the following statement:
"President Obama is more afraid of 'propaganda' than he is of a serious, credible threat of terrorism. The battlefield and rules of engagement have shifted dramatically because we are facing an enemy who feels it has 'divine permission' to decimate America and her allies.
"His proposed 'systematic' way of closing Guantanamo is to completely ignore the law and circumvent Congress. The President's plan will force the United States Military to make the impossible decision of following their Commander in Chief or following the law.
"This proposed transfer would be the second time President Obama directly violated the law on prisoner transfers. His arrogance is breathtaking. I will be working closely with Chairman Thornberry and my colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee to keep these terrorists locked far away from the American homeland."
Congressman Franks is serving his seventh term in the U.S. House of Representatives and is a member of the Judiciary Committee, where he serves as Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and a member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. He is also a member of the Armed Services Committee, where he serves as Vice-Chairman of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, and Capabilities and a member of the Strategic Forces Subcommittee.
