SACRAMENTO, Aug. 19, 2014 /Christian Newswire/ -- On August 26th, 2014 Assemblyman Tim Donnelly will lead a protest outside the Leland Stanford Museum where Governor Jerry Brown will be hosting a luncheon to honor Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto to demand the release of active duty US Marine, Sgt Andrew Tahmooressi.
Donnelly's response to Browns invite, "I am writing to decline your luncheon invitation, and to express my deep disappointment that you would entertain the President of a nation that is holding an active-duty US Marine captive." He continues, "How you could visit Mexico and not publicly demand the release of Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, is beyond me. You had a great opportunity to demonstrate leadership by taking a stand for a California citizen that has put himself in harms way for our freedom."
Assemblyman Donnelly sent a letter to President Obama earlier this summer to plead for assistance in negotiating the release of our innocent Marine held captive in a Mexican jail. He also sent letters to the California Department of Transportation demanding to know what will be done to fix the confusing signage which resulted in Tahmooressi's unfortunate "wrong turn" into Mexico during his move from Florida to California to be treated for Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome due to his three tours of duty in Afghanistan.
As a Blue Star Father himself, Assemblyman Donnelly has kept the release of an American Hero as a top priority, speaking at rallies and holding a prayer vigil on the 4th of July at the spot where Sgt. Tahmooressi's life took an unfortunate turn.
