"Just as Ayers refuses to take responsibility for his terrorist acts, The Times won't take responsibility for publishing his pack of lies," writes Feder in a commentary posted December 8 at BoycottNYT.com. Shortly after 9/11, The Times published another Ayers op-ed in which he confessed, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough."
"In the current column, Ayers claims he was demonized during the 2008 campaign, in an effort to smear Barack Obama. In fact, Ayers' and Obama's relationship was a legitimate issue," Feder notes.
Ayers also attempted to rationalize his activities as a leader of the Weather Underground.
Despite Ayers' claims that he never killed or injured anyone, Feder discloses that, due to his group's terrorist activities, "One policeman died in the Police headquarters bombing. A bank guard and two policemen were murdered in the course of a Weatherman bank robbery. There were hundreds of injuries resulting from the terrorism of Ayers and his buddies, including a U.S. Attorney who was paralyzed for life."
Feder says any newspaper "that adhered to even minimal standards of journalism" would have rejected Ayers' "sickeningly dishonest and easily refuted" offering. But, "true to form, The New Times was delighted to offer a forum to its favorite ex-terrorist."
