I believe a more apt comparison can be found in our education system.
If President Obama has his way government funded health care will cause private medical insurance consumers to pay twice in the same manner that public schools cause those who send their children to private school-- pay twice.
Eventually most will not be able to afford both, and since you must pay your taxes the vast majority will stop buying private health insurance.
Soon through our taxes we will be paying for an overpriced, bureaucratic-bloated, ineffective health care system. Those who can afford quality private healthcare insurance will pay for it, a second time. And those who can't afford private insurance will be stuck with a government healthcare monopoly.
Years from now the USA's health care ranking will have to fallen to near last place among industrialized nations, just as education fell. And politicians will argue over a voucher system for health care, claiming that the only quality health care is private.
