WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2022 /Standard Newswire/ -- A new report released today by the Lepanto Institute shows that Faith in Action (formerly known as the PICO network) took an official and organizational stance vowing to fight for the "right" to abortion. Since 2016, Faith in Action National Network and Affiliates have collectively received at least 4.8 million since from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.
The Lepanto Institute previously released a series of reports in 2020 detailing Faith in Action's partisan electioneering, support for abortion and violent revolution. The CCHD dismissed these reports as "incendiary rhetoric" in an internal memo while praising Faith in Action's "proven track record working with Catholic parishes, dioceses, the USCCB and even the Vatican!"
On June 24, shortly after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Faith in Action issued an official press release, which was also published on Faith in Action's website, saying:
"Clergy and organizers with Faith in Action, the largest grassroots, faith-based organizing network in the United States, are speaking out against today's Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade."
FIA's executive director Rev. Alvin Herring called the decision, "a huge blow to women in this season of despair," and declared that "[w]e must speak out against dangerous policies that chip away at having agency over their own bodies."
Rev. Dr. Cassandra Gould, FIA's Senior Strategist at FIA's Washington, DC office, claimed that the "SCOTUS decision to overturn ROE" was "legalized, judicially enforced oppression" that "shows contempt for the Creator."
Rev. Kamilah Hall Sharp, member of FIA's Organizing Clergy Board, said that the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade was "deadly," and that she was "enraged at the injustice, the lack of care for women and that most people who voted to take this right away will never have to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term in their bodies." She then had the audacity to claim that "As a follower of Jesus," her rage about the overturning of Roe "aligns with [H]is."
Michael Hichborn, president of the Lepanto institute said:
"It doesn't get any clearer than this. Faith in Action is pro-abortion and is committed to fighting in favor of abortion as a 'right' – and the CCHD is unapologetically promoting and supporting Faith in Action. This is inexcusable! Anyone with two braincells to rub together could see this coming, but CCHD – ever full of excuses – is now in the awkward position of either publicly denouncing its friend and cutting-off Faith in Action completely or defending the indefensible.
"This is a catastrophic failure on the part of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, showing how it is either completely incompetent or complicit with the pro-abortion agenda of Faith in Action. Whatever the case may be, it is time for bishops to shut the CCHD down, completely and for good. And until that happens, individual bishops should immediately cease all participation in CCHD collections and campaigns."
The Lepanto Institute is calling on all faithful Catholics to contact their bishops and the CCHD to ask for answers regarding this betrayal of trust with their hard earned Catholic money.
