Georgia Files Personhood Amendment

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Feb. 15, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- At a press hearing today, Senator Barry Loudermilk, (R-52) a veteran pro-life leader, announced his filing of the Personhood Amendment, SR 153, in the Georgia Senate. This Resolution titled Paramount Right to Life; Without Regard to Age, Race, Sex, Health, Function or Condition of Dependency, states that the "right to life is vested in each human being from their earliest biological beginning until natural death" and that right should be protected by law.

Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, remarked that "The Georgia Personhood Amendment is a reflection of a growing pro-life sentiment across the country." Key evidence does indeed indicate a burgeoning support of the personhood issue right here in Georgia. In July 2010, 75% of Georgians from 46 counties statewide said a resounding "YES" to the personhood concept, including Atlanta's historically liberal Fulton County with 62%. In fact, a recent Gallup pole found that Americans are more pro -life than pro-choice for the first time. This trend reverses a 10 percentage point deficit as recently as 2006 and a 23 point gap just 15 years ago.

In 1973, when Roe v Wade was decided, ultrasonography and DNA testing were yet to be invented. Current technology and research clearly show that that a fully human and unique individual exists at the moment of conception. Dr. Don Wildmon, President of the American Family Association, says that Georgia has "become an example to the rest of the nation by demonstrating that a state can protect the sanctity of life without compromise and without exceptions." Dr. Wildmon further encouraged Georgians to "stand strong in this conviction, because innocent human life hangs in the balance."

Georgia Right to Life commends Senator Loudermilk for his efforts with the Personhood Amendment and providing Constitutional protection to the unborn.

Georgia Right to Life promotes respect and effective legal protection for all human life from its earliest biological beginning through natural death. GRTL is one of a number of organizations that have adopted Personhood as the most effective pro-life strategy for the 21st century.
