At the same time they commended the "straight talk- issues- based" success of the Florida Joe the Plumber campaign stops led by Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Sandy Forman (Fmr. NRA President) and Kitty Martinez. According to the group, these meetings, largely held in women owned small companies, have opened an even greater dialog among women, especially female businesses leaders, that bodes well for the McCain/Plain ticket.
"Women in Florida will not overlook Senator Obama's sexist actions. From female CEO's to local home-based cosmetic district representatives, women are still reeling from Senator Obama's refusal to consider Hillary Clinton's national mandate. The new attack ad coupled with the Joe the Plumber campaign swing brought out even more women who recognize that Obama is not an advocate for women. He talks a great game and claims to have backed women-centered legislation, but his actions point to brazen sexism. From his choice of an unpopular, male running mate to his dismal record on equal pay for his female staff Senator Obama has shown us he is no friend to women", said Linda Ivell, president of the FFRW.
Ivell points to Senator Obama's record on women's employment - where US Senate records indicate he pays his female staff 17% less than their male counterparts and only employs one top female advisor coupled with his sexist remarks on the campaign trail and his refusal to admonish his supporters who sport vulgarly sexist remarks on their T-Shirts and now, the new ads.
"Women voters understand that John McCain is man who is not intimidated by women. His own Senate record of paying his female employees an average of $55 thousand plus compared to the men who earn an average of less than $54 thousand speaks volumes. His top advisors are mainly women. He nominated an accomplished, well qualified feminist as his running mate. These are his choices," she said.
"Senator Obama has a problem with women voters and the National Organization of Women cannot help him. NOW has once again shown their lack of significance and leadership in endorsing for president for the first time since Geraldine Ferraro was on the ticket," said Ivell.
