SAN DIEGO, May 7, 2024 /Standard Newswire/ -- Interest in the early Church and in building a prayer life around the liturgical calendar have never been higher among the Catholic laity. A new book from Catholic Answers Press combines those two interests in a unique spiritual resource.
In Feasts of Our Fathers: Praying the Church Year with the Early Christians, prolific patristics author Mike Aquilina teams up with rising influencer Adam Lucas to create a spiritual companion meant to be consulted throughout the year and for year after year. Combing through the texts of the Fathers of the Church, Aquilina and Lucas present a curated selection of readings keyed to the seasons and feasts of the Catholic calendar.
Such a collection would be valuable by itself, but the authors have added extra value by integrating the seasonal and festal passages with recommended Scripture readings, prayers and meditations, and pithy lessons from and facts about those first few centuries of writers and leaders who shored the foundation for Christian belief, worship, and practice.
"Catholics today—and, increasingly, non-Catholic Christians too—want a sense of solidarity with the rest of the Body of Christ," says Todd Aglialoro, director of publishing for Catholic Answers Press. "Feasts of Our Fathers offers that, first, by connecting us to the wisdom of our forebears in the Faith: the great Christian writers and leaders who came out of the apostolic age. And second, by teaching us to pray, as they did, along with the rhythm of the Church's life. It reminds us that we are not isolated but are part of a family of faith that transcends time."
About the Authors:
Mike Aquilina is a veteran Catholic author, speaker, and musician. Adam Lucas writes on Catholicism, culture, and politics.
