BERMUDA DUNES, Calif., Nov. 18, 2019 /Standard Newswire/ -- Eavan Gilhuly (photo), an 18-year-old recent graduate of Desert Christian Academy in Bermuda Dunes, has written an inspirational and heartfelt devotional, a publication that provides a specific spiritual reading for each calendar day. Gilhuly says the book, entitled Recognize, was written as a tribute to her graduating class of 2019, and she presented it to them at a retreat last spring.
"It all started in April of my junior year, when my pastor told us to turn to a passage in the Bible, and I suddenly realized I had highlighted much of that exact passage and had also written some commentary on it," explains Gilhuly, who graduated in May. " I thought, well this isn't an accident, so I'm going to dig down deeper into what this might mean. That's what inspired the name Recognize."
The book is structured so that each devotional day begins with a Bible verse, followed by Gilhuly's thoughts and feelings about that verse and then a subsequent journal prompt. While she enjoyed writing each of the fifty entries, Gilhuly says her favorite devotional is Day #3: Lamentations 3:22-23.
"That particular passage is all about God's faithfulness, and mercies, and promise, which I placed early in the book so it hooks the readers," she explains. "I wanted people to know that throughout their struggles, and life's trials and errors that we all face, there will always be those things for them."
Those closest to Gilhuly are not surprised that the spirited teen is adding author to her growing list of accomplishments.
"Eavan's heart is poured out onto every page of this devotional and it is evident that she has a heart for the Lord, her peers, her family, and the mission field," says mentor Denise Guy of Desert Christian Academy. "This book will challenge you with questions that really make you dig deep and inspire you through her personal stories."
Gilhuly recently finalized an agreement with Harper Collins who is publishing the book for national and online distribution. Harper Collins released the book on October 11, 2019.
A lifelong desert resident, Gilhuly is a freshman studying psychology at Northwest University, a top-ranked Christian college near Seattle.
"I would love to continue writing," she explains. "No matter what lies ahead, I will do my best to love fully, give selflessly, and dream endlessly."
