The 15 kilometer (12 miles) deep quake is just 64 miles west off the coast of
HOPE worldwide staff, Robin Silalahi managed to speak to his brother who lives in smaller city Ketahun, just 2 hours away from Bengkulu. The man reported that parts of his house is damaged, while his neighbor's house across the street has collapsed. The residents are in panic and are outside of their house as the night is falling. No news yet regarding casualties, but we are monitoring the situation closely. The telephone lines in Bengkulu, closest city to the earthquake, has been shut down.
A Disaster Relief Team is being assembled to fly to Bengkulu tomorrow morning to provide relief and to assess the situation firsthand. Please keep the people of Bengkulu & South Sumatera in your prayers as they are facing the night and troubling time.
