ENUMCLAW, Wash., Jan. 14 /Standard Newswire/ -- Author Tyler Roberson releases his first book, "Herman" (Annotation Press, 2009), a children's story based on a beloved family story about a boy, a storm, and an orphaned baby heron:

In the aftermath of a storm, a young boy named Gene discovers a baby heron that he rescues and raises to adulthood. The two become fast friends, but Gene eventually has to face the reality of having to release his friend back into the wild and setting him free.

One of five siblings, Roberson was born in Cheboygan, Michigan in 1964 and adopted by Todd and Rosemary Roberson. His father Todd is the inspiration for the character Gene, an orphaned boy living with his grandparents in the 1940s.

"I grew up hearing my dad talk about the things he did as a child and was always fascinated by those stories. One of them was about an orphaned green heron he raised when he was about ten. This story kind of developed and grew out of that."

Roberson graduated from Cheboygan Area High School in 1982. He went on to attend North Central Michigan College in Petoskey and graduated from that school with an Associate of Arts degree. He continued his education at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. He graduated from CMU in 1990, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History.

Written in narrative style, the characters and events that take place in "Herman" demonstrate:

• A healthy relationship of love and respect between children and authority figures.

• The importance--and hardships--of friendship.

• The value of hard work, responsibilities and performing them well.

Tyler is a loyal lifelong Michigan resident and currently lives in Harrison, Michigan with his wife Kim. His has one son, two stepdaughters, and one stepson. He is also blessed with four beautiful grandchildren with whom he enjoys spending time.
