MEDIA ADVISORY, April 17 /Standard Newswire/ -- Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue has proclaimed April 18th as Hope for Life Day stating:
"THEREFORE, I, SONNY PERDUE, Governor of the state of Georgia, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2009, as HOPE FOR LIFE DAY in Georgia. I call upon all Georgians to recognize this day, to rededicate ourselves to compassionate service on behalf of the weak and defenseless, and reaffirm our commitment to respect the life and dignity of every human being."
"Finally we are celebrating the gift of life and I applaud Governor Perdue for proclaiming April 18th as Hope for Life Day", said Julie Thomas, Georgia State Leader for Operation Outcry an organization of women and men hurt by abortion.
On April 18, 2007 the Supreme Court upheld a federal ban on partial birth abortion and said abortion causes "severe depression" and "loss of esteem" in some women. The Court cited a brief filed by The Justice Foundation on behalf of Atlanta resident, Sandra Cano, the original "Mary Doe" of Doe v. Bolton, (the companion case to Roe v. Wade) which established the right to abortion up until the moment of birth.
The Justice Foundation also represented 180 of Operation Outcry women who have been hurt by abortion, and whose testimony was referred to by the Court. The Court also said that abortion was a "difficult and painful moral decision, fraught with emotional consequences" and that "some women come to regret aborting the infant life they once created and sustained."
To celebrate the United States Supreme Court's recognition that Abortion Hurts Women, The Justice Foundation, Operation Outcry, Georgia Right to Life, and other women and men hurt by abortion will be marching in celebration of Hope for Life Day. They will be joined by many prolife supporters, friends and family and will be marching down Martin Luther King Drive to the Federal Courthouse where Doe v. Bolton originated this Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 11:30 am.
It is called HOPE FOR LIFE DAY because with this first ban on one type of abortion in 35 years, there is now hope that ultimately abortions will not be destroying women, men or children. A noon rally with speakers will be held at the Russell Federal Building Courthouse. Sandra Cano, Norma McCorvey, and others will be present.
