WASHINGTON, Feb. 5 /Standard Newswire/ -- Thursday, February 12, at 11:00 am, Family Research Council will host a lecture by Dr. David Prentice on the scientific and ethical issues surrounding the current stem cell debate. President Barack Obama has pledged to spend federal money on embryonic stem cell research and the FDA has approved the first experiments using embryonic stem cells in patients. With these new developments, it is essential that people get the facts on embryonic stem cell research.

Dr. Prentice will discuss the difference between adult and embryonic stem cell research and highlight the ways in which adult stem cells are already saving lives and dollars. He will focus on the ethical and scientific problems with embryonic stem cell research and illustrate why it is very unlikely to help patients.

Dr. David Prentice serves as Family Research Council's Senior Fellow for Life Sciences. He is an advisory board member of the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity. He is the recipient of the 2007 Walter C. Randall Award in Biomedical Ethics from the American Physiological Society and was selected by the U.S. President's Council on Bioethics to write their comprehensive review of adult stem cell research.
