WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) today announced that the Republican Address to the Nation by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) will be streamed live online tonight at Facebook.com/OfficeofSpeakerBoehner following the president's State of the Union message. Boehner's press staff will be blogging all day at Speaker.gov/Blog providing previews of the Republican address, and frequent fact-checks and responses to President Obama's remarks. Boehner released the following statement:
- "Live streaming the Republican address online is just one more example of the new majority's commitment to using every tool possible to engage with and listen to our constituents. The American people are demanding less spending and more jobs, and when America speaks out our majority will listen. I hope Americans will log on to hear from Chairman Ryan and to discuss how we can cut spending, remove the government barriers that are preventing small businesses from hiring new workers, and get our economy back to creating new jobs."
NOTE: Earlier this month, the new Republican majority streamed the Opening Session of Congress live online via Facebook -- a first. More than 14,600 unique visitors logged on to watch. Tonight's live stream and blog are only the latest examples of the Office of the Speaker making aggressive use of new digital media to connect and engage with the American people.
