COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 1, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- CNN and your cell phone camera are now on an even playing field. Think about it. Most news is not covered by film crews from a local or national TV station anymore. News is more often captured by someone who was at the right place at the right time. Capitalizing on this new phenomenon, Created Equal, a national pro-life organization, is helping America's youth to become their own producers. We are training students to use this newfound outreach tool to change hearts and minds about abortion.
- We call this effort Created Equal Films.
Examples of the power of social media to change public opinion abound. This is evident in today's social action movements.
- In 2009-2010, Iranian election protests demonstrated how social networking sites are more quickly and more easily mobilizing large numbers of people. Neda Agha-Soltan was shot in the chest while watching an anti-government demonstration. She was killed by a pro-government militiaman. The film of the shooting went viral when it was captured by a cell phone camera and sent out on Twitter. Neda Agha-Soltan became the poster girl of the uprising, causing the Iranian government to shut down Twitter in Iran.
Created Equal is riding the wave created by this generation's ability to use new media to influence the culture. We are undertaking a media training program aimed at developing 21st century media creators who will impact their world.
