Anita Staver, President of Liberty Counsel, will participate in the press conference, along with Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-VA), Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC), Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL), and other members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus. Leaders of other faith-based organizations will also stand with the members to affirm America's rich religious heritage.

Rep. Forbes and 24 cosponsors introduced America's Spiritual Heritage Resolution, which is dedicated to recognizing "the rich spiritual and religious history of our Nation's founding and subsequent history and expressing support for designation of the first week in May as 'American Religious History Week' for the appreciation of and education on America's history of religious faith."

The theme for the 2009 National Day of Prayer is "Prayer ...America's Hope," and the scripture is from Psalm 33:22: "May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You." The press conference will follow the National Day of Prayer Service at approximately 12:15 p.m. ET on the Cannon Terrace in the Cannon House Office Building.

After dissention arose among the Revolutionary leaders about the proper form of Government, and when all hope seemed lost, Benjamin Franklin arose and said, 'Have we now forgotten that powerful friend? The United States Supreme Court has acknowledged that America is a 'Christian nation,' that we are a 'religious people,' and that our 'institutions presuppose a Supreme Being.' Yes, Mr. President, America was born on a Christian and Judeo foundation. At critical times like these, we ought to heed the words of Benjamin Franklin and humbly ask Almighty God to bless America."
