WASHINGTON, Aug. 12, 2025 /Standard Newswire/ — Advocates to hold a news conference and demonstration in front of the White House on Wednesday, August 13, at 9:00 PM at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
Rev. Patrick and Katie Mahoney will be spending some of the evening sleeping on Pennsylvania Ave. in front of the White House to stand in solidarity with and pray for the homeless in our nation’s capital.
On Monday, President Trump shared this on social media: "The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital.”
Alexei Laushkin, Founder of Kingdom Mission Society, responded to President Trump’s comments:
"My heart is heavy with the recent executive order on homelessness and the proposed actions in Washington, D.C. The administration's call to clear our streets and move people 'FAR from the Capital' is a profound betrayal of a Christian commitment to compassion and human dignity.
"This is a particularly painful reality for our nation’s veterans, who, after serving our country, now find themselves among the homeless and are being met with harassment instead of help. The most recent Point-In-Time count in the D.C. metropolitan region found over 300 homeless veterans, and to meet these men and women with harassment instead of help is unconscionable.
"Therefore, we implore the President to meet with faith leaders and to empower these armies of compassion to shelter the homeless. The dignity of every person is non-negotiable. We are called not to move people out of sight, but to bring them into our sight, and to minister and provide for their needs thus fulfilling the commandments of Jesus, ‘I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat."

Rev. Patrick Mahoney, Director of the Washington, DC based Christian Defense Coalition, has been a homeless advocate for nearly 50 years establishing housing and building public support for the homeless in Florida, Connecticut and in Washington, DC.
Rev. Mahoney adds:
"President Trump’s demand for Washington, DC’s homeless to move out of the city IMMEDIATELY and live FAR away not only disregards American core values but violates foundational principles of the Christian faith.
"Proverbs 14:31 says, ‘He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God’ Mark 12:30-31 tells us to: ‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.’
"Nowhere are we told to disdain the homeless and marginalized, and treat them with disrespect and contempt. The Trump Administration needs to understand that making Washington, DC ‘beautiful’ is treating the needy and vulnerable with dignity and compassion and not abandoning the homeless in favor of tourism and appearance.
"We respectfully ask President Trump to make a commitment to work with the faith community, business leaders, law enforcement, government officials and mental health professionals to find redemptive and lasting solutions to address homelessness. Only then can we ever hope to ‘Make America Great Again.’"
