Evangelicals List Top Threats, Most Urgent Concerns, in D. James Kennedy Ministries Survey

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 27, 2023 /Standard Newswire/ -- By large margins, those answering an informal survey sent in January to friends and supporters of the Christian media outreach, D. James Kennedy Ministries (DJKM), listed China (97%), open borders (96%), and socialism (95%) as the top threats facing America today.

Asked to choose the three most critical issues facing Congress and the Biden administration, those answering DJKM's Spiritual and Constitutional State of the Nation Survey named religious freedom (24%), abortion (23%), and national security/immigration (21%) as their chief concerns.

While not a scientific snapshot of the American populace, the survey offers a rough gauge of evangelical attitudes on key moral and social concerns. It is conducted annually to help elected officials and journalists better understand the views held by Christian social conservatives.

Fully 100% of those responding said they oppose taxpayer-funded abortion. Similarly, 99% reject President Biden's initiative to codify Roe v. Wade into law, which would legalize abortion until birth.

Other notable results include:

  • 97% reject open borders as an immigration solution
     
  • 97% want schools to teach the history of socialism's damaging impact on the world
     
  • 99% support protecting the public display of the Ten Commandments or the Cross
     
  • 96% support the right of self-defense using firearms
     
  • 99% reject "sex education that features transgender exploration and surgery"
     
  • 99% think parents should be free to speak to school boards without fear of the FBI

The survey also revealed striking distrust of elected officials. A mere 1% trust President Biden. Just 6% said they trust their local school board officials; 7% trust their Congressional representatives. In contrast, 66% trust their pastors.
