DALLAS, Jan 4. /Standard Newswire/ -- Today Attorney General Greg Abbott won a decision in federal court upholding Texas' Moment of Silence law against attack. The lawsuit was brought against Governor Rick Perry by a North Texas couple who claimed the moment of silence observed in Texas schools was unconstitutional. Chief Counsel for Liberty Legal Institute, Kelly Shackelford responds:
"This is a great victory against those who would try to deny every individual's right to religious liberty," said Shackelford, who commented on the case when it was filed. "The ultimate intolerance is someone attacking a moment of silence because they are worried others will decide to pray in their free time. This is a victory for everyone who believes in freedom."
Free Market Foundation congratulates Attorney General Gregg Abbott as well as Solicitor General Ted Cruz, who argued the case on the state's behalf.
"We applaud these great leaders' excellent work and their commitment to defending the freedoms of every Texan," said Shackelford.
