WASHINGTON, Sept. 21 /Standard Newswire/ -- As thousands of protestors converge on the small town of Jena, Louisiana, I can't help but wonder why it comes as a surprise to so many that there is still racism in this country.
Since the 60's we have continued to make great strides in breaking down color barriers and the walls of inequality. African Americans have become doctors, lawyers, educators, movie stars, corporations and conglomerates--on the outside all appears to be lily-tan. But, it is evident that there is a double standard in America, most black people already know that.
The case of the Jena Six is a prime example.
I join the gallery in being appalled at the beating suffered by the white student in Jena but I find it interesting that only the black students were charged with wrong doing. The white students involved knew that hanging nooses on a tree held a well-defined meaning to all African Americans. Those white students were making a statement that blacks know all too well. The white students knew their actions would cause racial tension, at the very least between the young black boys who sat under the tree and themselves. Therefore, they deserve and should receive equal justice for their part in the actions that led up to the beating.
This case helps to hit home a very important point. While we as African Americans have made great strides in closing the racial gap, the gap is not yet closed. There are still areas of racism all Americans need to confront and erase.
While many Blacks are very quick to recognize the racism in Jena and elsewhere, racism is still being ignored in one place where it is most devastating. Blacks are racially targeted by the abortion industry, with abortion facilities purposefully placed in our minority neighborhoods. Abortion is the number one killer of black people in America, killing more African Americans than accidents, heart disease, stroke, crimes, HIV-AIDS and all other deaths...COMBINED!
Most blacks agree that racism is still very much alive, yet say nothing when abortion facilities are strategically placed in minority areas. Abortion is a multi-million dollar a year business that makes most of its blood money by killing our black children.
Racism must be eliminated--wherever it lives, whether it's under a tree in Jena, Louisiana or in the womb of a mother-to-be.
