WASHINGTON, May 13, 2014 /Standard Newswire/ -- Today, Congressman Diane Black (R-TN-06) issued the following statement on the one year anniversary of the conviction of late-term abortionist Kermit Gosnell, urging the Senate to pass legislation that protects unborn babies beginning at 20 weeks:
"As a mother, a nurse and an outspoken pro-life advocate in Congress, I continue to grieve for the victims and their families who have been hurt by Kermit Gosnell," said Congressman Black. "Gosnell's horrific crimes stand as a stark reminder that there is no such thing as a safe abortion. While Gosnell's actions were especially egregious, we should remember that this is what happens each time an abortion is performed -- a beating heart is stopped and an innocent human life is ended. Furthermore, there is widespread public opposition to the practice of late-term abortions -- a practice that would be put to an end if the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act were to become law. This bill has already passed the House and I urge the U.S. Senate to heed the will of the American people, follow our lead and pass this important protection without further delay."
Congressman Diane Black represents Tennessee's 6th Congressional District. She has been a registered nurse for more than 40 years and serves on the House Ways and Means and Budget Committees.
