SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 8, 2010 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Pacific Justice Institute is pleased to announce the posting of new information for parents, students, and school officials regarding the constitutionality of celebrating Christmas in the public schools.
The new resource is offered in user-friendly "Frequently Asked Questions" format designed to address some of the major issues PJI handles with every year regarding separation of church and state during the holidays. The information is now available on the "PJI Attorneys Blog" section of www.pji.org.
In recent years, misunderstanding over the legality of celebrating Christmas has led to absurd results, such as towns banning the use of red and green decorations, and schools claiming that Santa Claus is too religious. Already this year PJI has encountered school districts attempting to end decades-old Christmas traditions based on misunderstandings of the First Amendment.
Brad Dacus president of Pacific Justice Institute stated, "There is nothing unconstitutional about public schools acknowledging Christmas for its obvious cultural and historical significance. Christmas remains both a federal holiday and an international season of goodwill, and acknowledgement is not the same as endorsement. Whether the ACLU likes it or not, the courts have not declared Christmas unconstitutional."
If you or someone you know encounters hostility toward Christmas in the public schools or other government agencies this year, please contact PJI immediately for free legal advice and assistance.
