WASHINGTON, July 2 /Standard Newswire/ -- Artist/Designer Michael Letney has been invited to participate in this year's Independence Day Service, honoring Veterans and their service to our country. There, Michael will present the "Sacrifice for Freedom" memorial to the family of CPL Jared Shoemaker USMC, honoring Jared's courageous service and ultimate sacrifice for our country. This event is being held at Chandler Park, 6500 West 23rd Street, Shelter #2 on July 4th beginning at 10:00 AM.
Michael Letney, shares his vision of healing and uniting America through his original memorial design entitled Sacrifice for Freedom™.
Letney states, "We have not built a memorial to put in a park. We have created a memorial that can go into the living room of the family of every fallen soldier so that we can show them that we appreciate the sacrifice that they have made for us and for our country. Many have told us that this effort is bringing about comfort and healing to the families that have lost loved ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our dreams and our freedoms. It is helping them to remember that without a doubt, they are loved, supported, and appreciated by the people of America. "
Letney said, "This artistic sculpture pays tribute to the heroes of the United States Armed Forces without regard to 'political aisle.' This is not a political statement, but a moral issue. It is up to the citizens of this nation to give needed assistance and rise to our responsibility as Americans. At the same time the memorial raises much needed funding for "front line" support organizations."
Letney's "not-for-profit" goal is to find sponsors from across the nation that will provide the necessary funds to memorialize fallen American soldiers. Each participating sponsor will provide a soldiers' family with a framed 3-dimensional sculpture to honor their loved one. Additionally, funds will go to support FisherHouse.org and TAPS.org, providing Scholarships for the children of fallen soldiers and offering hope, healing, comfort and care during their time of need.
In an effort to help military families receive the benefits brought in by sponsorships, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (A.A.F.E.S) plans to provide space in their catalog to feature Letney's fundraising designs.
Letney met with and received verbal support earlier this year from Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma and is currently working with individuals within the Pentagon.
Sacrifice for Freedom™ is a tribute to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, who have dedicated their lives and sacrificed themselves so we may live and celebrate our independence. As grateful citizens of this nation, we mourn the loss of these Heroes and honor them by pledging never to forget the sacrifice they made for our freedom.
