ENUMCLAW, Wash., Nov. 1, 2019 /Standard Newswire/ -- Life hasn't been easy for Elisabeth Davis. As a war widow left alone with a young son, she had to overcome many heartaches and obstacles. But then God brought her Hank, who loved her more than anyone had before. In the more than fifty years they shared together, Hank taught her about God, about loving others, and about loving life. Together, they made it a practice to look for the joy in every situation. And then a fast-acting virus took him away. A few months later, an automobile accident took both her son and his wife, leaving Elisabeth and her two grown grandchildren to find joy in the midst of tragedy. And that has been a challenge.
And yet Finding Joy isn't just about an old lady looking back on hard-won happiness. At eighty years old, Elisabeth is tired. But she's determined to instill a legacy of hope and faith in Jenna and Max that will carry on for generations to come. And so she reminds them daily to look for the joy in everything that comes their way.
Max has heard Elisabeth say those words so many times, he is almost oblivious. And while he understands her point, putting it into action is not always easy.
When his girlfriend demands he make a choice between her and his best friend—in the same week his grandmother has a stroke!—Max must reexamine his life, his relationships, and even his faith in this heartwarming story of coming of age and leaving a legacy.
The inspiration for Finding Joy, author J. C. Lafler says, came about through conversations with her stepdaughter, whose middle name is Joy. She challenged J. C. to start each day by choosing joy. "At first we were just being silly, but then I thought about instances in my own life that I had struggled with, and I realized I could have handled them better if I had searched out the positive aspects instead of focusing on the negative," J. C. says. "I want my readers to be encouraged and uplifted by looking into God's Word for comfort and joy, like Elisabeth does. I want them to realize they have a choice to be happy and that faith can assist them and comfort them during the struggles of everyday life."
