LOS ANGELES, Jan. 28, 2011 /Standard Newswire/ -- Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), the world's largest religious broadcaster, now ranks number three in America in terms of broadcast ownership. Ranking well ahead of CBS, Fox, NBC, and ABC, today TBN offers faith and family programming to 102 million American households.
The recently released Top 30 list, assembled through the co-operation of TVNewsCheck.com and M.C. Alcamo & Co., Inc., ranked TBN at an incredible 40.6 percent in terms of its market share of the nation's 114.9 million TV homes, behind Ion Media -- covering 63.3 percent -- and Univision at 44 percent. TBN's third place ranking is based on the total household reach of the networks' full-power stations.
"This ranking is a testament to all the hard work that my father and our partners have been doing over the years," says Paul Crouch, Jr., TBN's chief of staff. "Acquiring stations across America to join the TBN family has enabled our network to offer its fine, family-friendly programming to viewers in every corner of this nation."
According to TVNewsCheck.com, station group rankings used to be based on the way the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) calculated coverage for the purpose of enforcing its ownership cap on TV broadcasters, which reduced the percentage of UHF stations by fifty-percent. This resulted in groups with large portfolios of VHF stations being ranked higher. Since television broadcasting's recent conversion to digital from analog, most stations are UHF, so the FCC discounting no longer makes sense. The new more accurate rankings represent actual household reach.
In addition to TBN's broadcast station reach, the network is available to ninety percent of Americans on eight thousand cable systems, as well as on both direct-to-home satellite services reaching 102 million American households.
