Contact: David Bruce, Public Relations, University of the Nations, Kona Campus, 562-277-6583, summersurge@uofnkona.edu; www.konasummersurge.com

KAILUA KONA, Hawai'i, July 10, 2012 /Standard Newswire/ -- What's a volunteer-cation? Well, it's the best of two worlds all wrapped up in one; volunteering and vacationing, in beautiful Kona, Hawai'i. If you have construction or related skills, the Kona Summer Surge hosted by the interdenominational Christian University of the Nations is offering free room and board for you and your family.

UofN/Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has over 1200 campuses worldwide. In the 50 plus years of service YWAM has seen over 4 million students and staff volunteering in mercy ministry, training, and missions. The Kona Summer Surge has scheduled a 'work hard, play hard' summer build-out program which includes a wide variety of family fun island activities along with a weekly Kids Camp. The Surge begins July 5th and runs through September 15th, 2012.

To accommodate the current and expected future growth of the student body and volunteer staff, the campus is undertaking a major development program. The expansion includes a new cafeteria, media center, new classrooms, sports facilities, and additional housing for staff and students.

Troy Barnum, Director of Communications for University of the Nations, states:

"You may be asking 'Missionaries in Hawaii?' You bet. In fact, the volunteer full-time staff have come to the Kona campus from all over the world. Centrally located between the mainland of the United States and Asia, YWAM Kona has become a springboard for singles, couples, and families to join as volunteers to see transformation in all areas of society; globally, and locally. The Summer Surge is not just about buildings being built. It is about individuals and families giving back to help communities around the globe."

Join! Volunteer and make a difference. Visit at Kona Summer Surge. Aloha and Mahalo.
