ATLANTA, May 7 /Standard Newswire/ -- The Home Depot® Foundation and associates from The Home Depot are joining in the relief efforts in the aftermath of the floods that have caused significant damage in Nashville and throughout Middle Tennessee. The Home Depot Foundation has committed $100,000 to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, which has mobilized two relief funds, the Metro Nashville Disaster Response Fund and the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund.

"The widespread flooding throughout Nashville and Middle Tennessee is devastating on many levels, from the personal loss of homes and destruction of neighborhoods, to the immediate safety and relief issues to the longer term rebuilding needs," said Kelly Caffarelli, president, The Home Depot Foundation. "The immediate clean up needs are immense, and we know that the needs will continue as it will take some time to restore the impacted areas. We are thankful to have the opportunity to work with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to assist those in need now and to support these communities as they rebuild in a healthy, sustainable way."

The Home Depot Foundation is also working with Hands On Nashville to organize more than 70 Team Depot volunteers to work on community clean-up projects next week. This activity will allow the Company's associates to contribute their time and expertise to directly benefit their communities. The Foundation is donating $15,000 to Hands On Nashville to support ongoing volunteer clean-up projects.

"We have almost 1,700 associates who live and work throughout Middle Tennessee, so this is a very personal effort for all of us," said Caffarelli. "Store associates are already planning Team Depot volunteer events to help their communities get back on their feet. We are ready to roll up our sleeves to help our associates, neighbors and customers."

In addition to its donation to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, The Home Depot is also a member of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP). The Company's $500,000 contribution to the ADGP each year enables the Red Cross to respond immediately to the needs of individuals and families affected by disaster anywhere in the United States. The Red Cross has designated Tennessee as a level 4 disaster operation and has mobilized teams to address emergency needs. In addition, The Home Depot is providing Red Cross representatives in Middle Tennessee with access to in-kind product donations in the Company's Middle Tennessee stores.

Created in 2002, The Home Depot Foundation supports nonprofit organizations dedicated to creating and preserving healthy, affordable homes as the cornerstone of sustainable communities. The Foundation's goal is for all families to have the opportunity to live in healthy, efficient homes they can afford over the long-term; to have access to safe, vibrant parks and greenspaces; and to receive the economic, social and environmental benefits of living in a sustainable community. Since its formation, The Home Depot Foundation has granted $190 million to nonprofit organizations and supported the development of more than 95,000 homes, planted more than 1.2 million trees, and built or refurbished more than 1,875 playgrounds, parks and greenspaces.
