DALLAS, Feb. 16, 2023 /Standard Newswire/ -- Christian revival headlines religious news lately, but what does true revival look like? "You Turn: How God Transforms Us from Distracted to Devoted" from author and Bible teacher Perry Brown (ThM Dallas Seminary) revisits the compelling Old Testament account of a nationwide revival after the straightforward message of the prophet Haggai. Haggai's account suggests a template for what must happen when God's people are transformed during revival.
Written over 2,500 years ago, the Bible book of Haggai still gives us amazing insight into the miraculous U-turn from spiritually distracted back to spiritually devoted. Legitimate revival certainly includes a deeper walk with God, but as Haggai suggests, it begins by dealing with personal sin and it continues with a renewed commitment to the Lord's work in the world. Haggai is no simplistic shake-and-bake recipe for success, but rather a non-holds-barred confrontation that issued in sincere repentance and an extraordinary return to focused work for the Lord.
No prophet's message was so needed, no prophet's message was so successful, and no message could serve as the template for contemporary revival.
Perry challenges his readers, "There is much we can learn from old Haggai. If we expect to be fruitful for our Lord and if we long for His 'Well done, good and faithful servant,' we must relearn those lessons from ages past. So still today in the 21st century Haggai speaks once more and implores us, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts, 'Consider your ways'' (Haggai 1:7)."
