Hong Kong Red Cross Allocated RMB 200,000 to Help Floods Affected People in Hunan Disaster Situation

HONG KONG, June 12 /Standard Newswire/ -- Since late May, continuous rainstorm caused serious flooding and mud-rock flow in the provinces of Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou in the Mainland. According to the statistics provided by the Civil Administration Department, as of 10th June, 8.97 million of people were affected, 66 people reported dead, 12 people missing, and more than 590,000 people had to be relocated. 48,000 houses were collapsed and about 290,000 hectares of farmland submerged, with direct economic loss reached RMB2.94billion.

 

Red Cross Actions

 

The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) Headquarters sent an assessment team to Chongqing to investigate relief needs in late May. Emergency relief items such as tents, family kits, blankets, mosquito nets, drinking water and environmental disinfectant valued RMB1.29 million have been distributed to floods affected people in Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi and Guizhou, the six most seriously hit provinces/city.

 

Hong Kong Red Cross has decided to allocate RMB200,000 to assist the relief operation in Hunan. We will closely monitor the disaster situation and further assistance will be decided accordingly.
