After Halting Abortions, Planned Parenthood Birmingham is Attempting to Build a New Facility

Contact: Terry Gensemer, Charismatic Episcopal Church For Life, 205-253-0159

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 5, 2018 /Standard Newswire/ -- The same national organization that is currently under federal investigation for the illegal sale of baby body parts is trying to expand its Southeastern profile. Planned Parenthood Birmingham (PPB) announced plans for a new facility after their national umbrella, Planned Parenthood Southeast (PPSE), purchased a new property for them at 1019 1st Ave N.

On Saturday, June 9th at 9:30 a.m., pastors, legislators, pro-life leaders and concerned citizens will gather at 1019 1st Ave N for the city-wide We Say No! Prayer Vigil. Those praying will include:

  • Fr. Terry Gensemer, Charismatic Episcopal Church For Life

  • Jim and Joy Pinto, Her Choice Birmingham

  • Evangelist Scott Dawson (Candidate for Governor)

  • Alabama Representative Arnold Mooney

  • Rev. Bob Foust, Sav-A-Life Shelby

  • Natalie Brumfield of Bound4Life

  • Deborah Love, Eagle Forum of Alabama

  • Paul Hughes, Birmingham Prayer Furnace

  • Cindy Harless, Abortion Recovery Alabama

  • and many others.

Planned Parenthood of Birmingham has shown all signs of a failing business. Their last deficiency report from the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) revealed failures to follow even simple sanitation protocols. It has also been over a year since PPB has been able to provide abortions. Local sidewalk counselors report that hardly any patients have been seen entering the shabby building for months on end, which is currently located at 1211 27th Pl S.

In a recent news article, PPSE openly admitted that PPB's current rundown building is not even worth updating, which raises the question: If the building is truly outdated, why are they still licensed by ADPH? In fact, Planned Parenthood Birmingham's entire sordid history – covering up sexual abuse, selling abortion drugs illegally, even botching abortion procedures – has citizens calling for both the revocation of the facility's current license and a denial of any future license for any new locations.

Mary Ann Vann, a main organizer for the local 40 Days for Life prayer campaign says, "A new building isn't going to make Planned Parenthood suddenly grow a conscience and start following the rules. The body of work following this facility is atrocious, affirmed every day by fewer and fewer clients going through their doors."

Fr. Terry Gensemer, a longtime Birmingham pastor and well-known national leader of the pro-life movement says, "Planned Parenthood holds itself out as a healthcare provider while deceiving citizens, harming women, and killing our children. It's the only abortion clinic left in this city, and it's clearly struggling to find a clientele. People talk about safe spaces. With Planned Parenthood closed for good, Birmingham would become one of the largest and safest metropolitan areas in the country for mothers and children in the womb. How beautiful would that be? Planned Parenthood has been unable to provide abortions for a year. Let's keep it that way."

Gensemer also points out that this new building will sit directly beside the interstate. "When people drive into our city, they can see Vulcan, Regions Field, Railroad Park – all old and new symbols of our great city. Imagine a huge Planned Parenthood sitting front and center to all of that. Do we want abortion to become the first thing people see about Birmingham? I certainly don't. On June 9th, we are going to unite as citizens, as Christians, and pray for God to move on our behalf. We invite every concerned citizen to join us."
